Course Overview If you’ve got a passion for music and want to broaden your skills and career opportunities through practical learning, then the Rockschool Level 2 Extended Certificate in Music is right for you. During this year long course you will develop your music performance skills, gain knowledge of how the current music industry works, learn how to write and sequence your own music using Cubase, explore the different styles of music, learn how to record bands using ProTools, create a range of interesting Podcasts about topics you enjoy and work as an active member of a band working towards a range of performances in internal and external music venues. Maths and English are key elements of any full-time programme of study in College. If you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*- C (or new grade 9-4) in these subjects, you will need to attend sessions allocated on your timetable. These are varied and designed to cater for all ability levels. You will receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you. Rockschool is the leading accredited provider of rock exams worldwide. Their Vocational Qualifications are taught the world over and are renowned for their practicality, flexibility and creativity. What you will Study

During the year you will learn:

• How to develop your musicianship skills and take part in a number of internal and external gigs.
• How to communicate as a member of a band and how to develop music material.
• How to make money from making music.
• The historical aspects and musical characteristics of a variety of key musical genres.
• How to compose your own music.
• How to create a podcast using music technology.
• How to operate studio equipment, record and mix a recording.
• How to record live music and perform to a live recording.

How you will Learn This course is 75% practical work and 25% classroom study. You will develop skills by completing a variety of theoretical and practical tasks that are assessed in many different ways.

How you will be Assessed You’ll be assessed through practical and theoretical projects that reflect realistic activities found within the music industry.
Entry Requirements 4 GCSEs at A*-D (or new grade 9-4) AND Interview and audition
Attendance Expectations You will be required to attend a minimum of four days per week. You may also be required for extra rehearsals and performances in the evening. You will be expected to attend all College performances and some professional performances at other venues.

Fee Information Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, and residentials, which are payable by all students. Any student registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and subsequently withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.
