Course Overview This course is suitable for adults (19+) who want to develop their skills, techniques and overall understanding of Studio Production, Digital Composition, MIDI Sequencing and Live sound engineering. This course will give you all the experience needed to prepare you for a career within the Music Industry This is one year course also offers excellent progression opportunities at both local and national Higher Education institutions and internally to the College’s own degree programmes. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for Music Technology that has been acquired through their personal interests or commercial activities in this field.
What you will Study The finalised module list is yet to be confirmed, however, The topics covered on the course will develop and enhance your practical music skills but also your theoretical knowledge. The course offers a wide range of modules including; Studio Production MIDI Sequencing Listening Skills Operating Live Sound Digital Composition Sampling Techniques Marketing and Promotion within the Music Industry The course comprises of a combination of graded and ungraded units, including Study Skills that will support your application to HE courses (Online UCAS application, portfolio building, interview preparation etc.)
How you will Learn You will be taught through a number of teaching and learning styles that will allow you to gain full access to our specialist facilities within the Music Department such as our Recording Studios, Post Production Suites, Live Sound Venue and MIDI composition suites that run dedicated Audio Software such as Pro-tools and Cubase.

How you will be Assessed The course involves a variety of assessment techniques including practical work, written assignments and oral presentations.
Entry Requirements There are no formal qualifications required for this course although you need to have achieved or be working towards Level 2 or GCSE grade C or above in English and/or Maths, which you can take alongside the Access course if necessary. A passion and interest in Music Technology related subject is highly desirable, along with examples of work to be presented during the interview process.
Attendance Expectations The course requires you to attend College for at least three days a week, with essential independent study expected. The approx. duration each week will be 12 hours. Timetables are yet to be confirmed.

Fee Information

These fees relate to 2017/18

Course costs for students aged 19 or over - £4835.00

Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residentials etc which are payable by all students. Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

If you are aged 19 or over and interested in studying a Level 3 or 4 course, Access to HE course starting on or after 1st August 2016, you may be eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan from the government to cover your tuition fees. You can apply for a loan from April 2016 using an online application form available on the Student Loans Company website. Repayments won’t start until you complete your course and you are earning over £21,000 a year. For example: repayments of £7.50 per month if you’re earning £22,000 a year; repayments of £30 per month if earning £25,000 a year. If you take out a loan for an Access to Higher Education Diploma, complete it and progress to undertaking and completing a Student Finance England funded HE course, the balance relating to your Access to Higher Education Diploma will be written off.

If you are aged 19 to 23 and you have not already achieved a full level 3 (or above) qualification then your course may be free.

Different fees apply to international/overseas students.

Further Study This course will allow you to progress on to degree courses in specific areas of Music Technology at both local and national universities and other Higher Education institutions. Popular HE destinations for our current students include: Wakefield College HND in Popular Music, Leeds Beckett, Huddersfield, Hull College, BIMM.
Career Opportunities The course provides opportunities to look at how you can gain careers in the following areas: Live Sound Engineering, Studio Production, Events Management, Radio Production, Film and TV composition.
