Course Overview This Certificate is a qualification suitable for dental nurses who assist in orthodontic procedures and is only available through approved centres. Students are required to attend a programme of theoretical instruction and also compile a record of practical competencies through a record of experience. This course is the first module of the Orthodontic Therapy course and is an essential requirement for the majority of providers.
What you will Study

The course is set at an academic level which has been equated to a level 5.

You will receive theoretical training by attendance at taught sessions delivered via MS Teams. In addition to this, you will be expected to complete a four-part record of competence.

How you will Learn

Through taught sessions, assignments and practical experience in your workplace.

You will be required to complete a record of practical competencies set out by NEBDN over a 12-week period of time.

How you will be Assessed In addition to the record of competence, there will also be a 90-minute examination consisting of single best answer multiple choice questions and extended matching questions.
Entry Requirements

You must:

• Be a qualified dental nurse
• Be registered with the General Dental Council
• Have the written support of your employer who will be required to allow time and access for training and validate workplace activities for the portfolio of experience

You must also be able to meet all practical requirements of the record of competence as set by NEBDN (Further information on these can be requested from j.smart@wakefield.ac.uk).

Additional Course Costs

The following costs should be used as a guide only.

Printing and photocopying costs:
There is no charge for course hand-outs, handbooks etc. Students will receive a printing credit of £10 per annum from the University Centre, after which students will have to pay for extra credits.

Library overdue charges:
Overdue charges apply to all library loans to encourage you to return any resources you borrow on time. Overdue charges are 5p per day per book. There is no charge for e-books rentals.

Graduation Ceremony:
When you graduate, we will invite you to your graduation ceremony. It is free for you to attend, however, to take part you will need to pay to hire an academic robe to wear during the ceremony. Details can be found here: www.edeandravenscroft.com/graduation-services.

Further Study The qualification is an essential requirement by the majority of providers if you wish to progress onto the Orthodontic Therapy course.
