Course Overview

This course of study provides an introduction to how the buildings, infrastructure and landscape around us come into existence. This qualification provides an insight to the world of the built environment sector, which covers all aspects of the creation of our towns and cities, and is fundamental to creating a sustainable future.

What You Will Study

You will study four mandatory units for this qualification. Please note there is no optional content in this qualification.

You will study:

  • Health and Safety
  • Construction Principles
  • Construction design
  • Construction Technology
How You Will Be Assessed

You will learn through a combination of formal and informal sessions including practical and resource-based learning activities with tutorial back-up.

The delivery of the course aims to develop both knowledge but also transferable skills for both employment and higher education. With these elements of the programme will enable you to:

  • Develop the ability to learn independently
  • Develop the ability to actively research
  • Develop your communication skills further through group activity and presentation work

Two units are externally assessed through examination and synoptic assessment. These are set for January and May.

Two units are assessed through assignment work.

Entry Requirements

You are expected to hold a Level 2 qualification or equivalent.

OR

Have suitable work experience.

Attendance Expectations

This course is offered by traditional day release. You will attend one day per week over one academic year divided into two semesters.

Further Study

Successful completion of this Level 3 qualification will enable you to progress to the BTEC Edexcel Level 4 HNC Construction and the Built Environment.
