Course Overview

The UK’s Public Services sector is one of the largest employers in the country.  It works to develop and implement government policies and helps deliver a huge range of services. Life in the public services can be challenging, rewarding, interesting, exciting and you will require a variety of skills, knowledge, and expertise to succeed. This course/programme will help you develop all these qualities and give you an introduction to careers within this sector, whilst providing you with many other attributes such as communication and leadership, teamworking skills and confidence, that are vitally important in all uniformed public service roles.

Work placement and voluntary work opportunities are part of your programme which will help transfer the skills you have gained into the working environment.

  • Skills for Outdoor Activities and the Uniformed Protective Services
  • Developing Personal Fitness Programmes
  • Introduction to Criminology
  • Police Powers and the Law

As part of the programme of study all students will undertake the Duke of Edinburgh Award that teaches the core subjects in life, team building, resilience, and confidence. Students will have the opportunity to continue their Duke of Edinburgh from school (up to silver level) or start from scratch and initially work towards their Bronze level award.

How You Will Be Assessed

A combination of coursework and exams. 

There are continuous assessments throughout the course. These consist of projects, presentations, physical demonstrations, and written assignments.

You may also be required to sit a controlled assessment as part of the course requirements; this will aid and develop your time management and rational thinking skills that will help you in your future career.

Entry Requirements

Level 3 Diploma
4 GCSE Grade 9-4, including English.

OR

Level 2 Public Services, with a merit profile.

Level 3 Extended Diploma
5 GCSEs Grade 9-4, including English and Maths.

Further Study Many of our students progress on to Higher Education to study Criminology and related topics, such as Law, Sports Science and range of Teaching degrees. Whilst others have pursued careers with HM Revenue & Customs and joined the services.
