The UK is the seventh biggest tourism market in the world, worth over £70
billion to the country each year. More than two million people are
employed in Travel and Tourism in the UK, so there are lots of opportunities for
you to find a rewarding career in the industry either in this country or
abroad.
Studying a Travel and Tourism course at Wakefield College will help you gain
the knowledge and qualifications you need to start work in this exciting
industry. Each year we have a selection of day trips and yearly residential for
learners to experience industry insight.
Your course will be an interesting mix of classes, lectures, seminars,
workshops, presentations and independent student research. Teaching will include
use of digital facilities where you will research and study the latest travel
and tourism news and information, and some will be in classrooms where you will
prepare for work in the industry. You will develop skills using the latest
travel industry directories and manuals. College links with companies such as
Fly Me, Jet 2 Holidays, Travel Counsellors and Wakefield Tourism Department will
provide opportunities for students to learn from real-life experience.
Students: A range of visits and residential are also planned throughout the
academic year. Examples of day visits include visits to Chatsworth House, The
Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Yorkshire Sculpture Park and London. Overnight
residential visits in current years have been to New York, Amsterdam and Disney
Land Paris (subject to availability).
