Course Overview

The UK is the seventh-largest tourism market globally, contributing over £70 billion to the economy each year. With more than two million people employed in Travel and Tourism in the UK, there are abundant opportunities for you to pursue a rewarding career in the industry, both domestically and abroad.

Studying Travel and Tourism at Wakefield College will provide you with the knowledge and qualifications necessary to begin your career in this exciting field. Each year, we organize a variety of day trips and an annual residential trip, offering valuable insights into the industry.

Your course will feature a dynamic mix of learning methods, including classes, lectures, seminars, workshops, presentations, and independent research. You will also have access to digital tools to stay up-to-date with the latest trends and news in the travel and tourism sector. Some sessions will take place in classrooms where you'll prepare for industry roles, while others will involve hands-on learning using industry-standard travel directories and manuals. Our close partnerships with companies such as Fly Me, Jet2 Holidays, Travel Counsellors, and the Wakefield Tourism Department provide students with opportunities to learn from real-world experiences.

Throughout the academic year, we plan a variety of visits and residential trips. Past day trips have included excursions to Chatsworth House, The Yorkshire Wildlife Park, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, and London. Overnight residential trips in recent years have taken students to New York, Amsterdam, and Disneyland Paris (subject to availability).

Please note: Work placement opportunities will be available as part of the course.
