Course Overview The BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in Music Performance builds on the skills and knowledge developed at HNC level, providing students with advanced practical, technical, and professional training to become confident and versatile performers.
What You Will Study Students will further refine their instrumental or vocal abilities while gaining extensive experience in live performance, ensemble work, rehearsal practice, and events management. The programme also deepens understanding of composition, songwriting, arranging, music production, and studio recording techniques. In addition, the HND emphasises professional practice within the music industry, supporting learners in developing employability skills, reflective practice, and a comprehensive portfolio of performance work. Successful completion of the HND prepares graduates for progression to degree-level study or for professional roles in performance, session work, events management, music education, and other creative industries.
How You Will Be Assessed Students are assessed using a mix of practical, theoretical, and professional tasks designed to reflect real-world music industry practices.
Entry Requirements Applicants are normally expected to have successfully completed the Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Music Performance or a closely related subject. Students should demonstrate appropriate practical skills, technical knowledge, and creative development gained during their HNC studies. Alternative qualifications may be considered, such as a relevant Level 4 qualification, a foundation degree, or equivalent industry experience. Applicants may be required to attend an interview and provide evidence of prior learning, such as a portfolio of music performance work.
