This course is ideal for young people who are interested in starting a career in the motorcycle or wider automotive industry. Whether you’ve just left school or are looking for a practical next step, the Level 1 Motorcycle Maintenance course offers a solid introduction to the trade.
You’ll develop essential hands-on skills in motorcycle repair and maintenance, working with modern equipment and a range of bikes in well-equipped workshops.

The course includes work placement opportunities to help you gain real-world experience and insight into the industry.
Taught by experienced professionals with strong industry knowledge, the course also helps build your confidence, problem-solving ability, and teamwork—valuable skills for any workplace. It’s a great foundation for further training, apprenticeships, or employment.

What You Will Study

This course provides a strong introduction to the motorcycle sector within the wider automotive industry. You'll focus on core areas of motorcycle maintenance and repair, covering topics such as:

  • Motorcycle construction and routine maintenance
  • Engine components and how they operate
  • Transmission systems
  • Electrical and electronic systems
  • Fuel, ignition, air intake, and exhaust systems
  • An introduction to low carbon technologies

Learning takes place through a combination of hands-on workshop sessions and classroom-based theory. You’ll train using high-quality bikes and tools in our well-equipped, industry-standard facilities.

If you haven't yet achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English or Maths, you’ll continue studying these alongside the course to support your overall progression.

By the end of the course, you’ll have developed key technical knowledge, practical ability, and the academic foundation needed for further training or entry-level employment in the motor vehicle industry.

How You Will Be Assessed You will be assessed through practical tasks in the workshops and completion of portfolio work and end of unit exams.
Entry Requirements GCSE Grade 9-2 in English and Maths.
Further Study On successful completion and with the required English and Maths grades you can progress through the levels.
