Programme Design and Overview Building services engineers manage and design the installation of services within different kinds of developments. This course is nationally-recognised and is approved by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE). It is a specialist vocational programme tailored to meet the requirements of industry and provides you with a grounding in the key concepts and practical skills of the sector.
Indicative Content

Delivery Methods The course links with industry and you’ll learn through a combination of practical, resource-based activities and work-based learning. Guest speakers and site visits for learners will form an integral part of the course.Tutorial back-up relates both to the subject matter and individual mentoring.
Nature of Assessments on the Programme Assessment takes place throughout the academic year and is 70% assignment-based and 30% presentation work.
Entry Requirements
  • Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in a building services related discipline or City & Guilds Level 3 6129 (Plumbing) or City & Guilds Level 3 2330 (Electrical Installation) or BTEC Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Construction and the Built Environment (Building Services Pathway) or an equivalent qualification
  • Those with previous experience or learning that is relevant may be eligible via our APL process for accreditation towards this course
Attendance Expectations The day of attendance is Tuesday. For the academic session 2017-18, the start date is 19th September 2016. The course runs for 30 weeks and the academic session will end late May 2018, with reading weeks provided through to the end of June 2017, where required. The college day starts at 09:00 and concludes around 18:00.
Fee Information

Fees relating to academic year 18/19 will be confirmed around the end of April.

Tuition fee: Part-time (two years) - £TBC per year.

Home and EU students on their first higher education course who are studying at least 25% of a full time equivalent course can apply for a non-means tested tuition fee loan from Student Finance England. For more information, please visit:

Additional Course Costs

The following costs should be used as a guide only. Arrangements apply to 2016 entry.

Printing and photocopying costs:
There is no charge for course hand-outs, handbooks etc. Students will receive a printing credit of £10 per annum from the University Centre, after which students will have to pay for extra credits.

Library overdue charges:
Overdue charges apply to all library loans to encourage you to return any resources you borrow on time. Overdue charges are 5p per day per book.  There is no charge for e-books rentals.

Graduation Ceremony:
When you graduate, we will invite you to your graduation ceremony. It is free for you to attend, however, to take part you will need to pay to hire an academic robe to wear during the ceremony. Details can be found here:

Further Study This course is recognised as a qualification in its own right or can be followed by study of a HND or a degree. This course also provides a progression route to professional qualifications offered by CIBSE.
