Course Overview

The Get SET programme is aimed at young people who have had high levels of academic support in school or College, who are not likely to access the workplace independently. It aims to enable them to gain the skills needed for employment. After the first term,  students will spend a significant amount of their time in a supported employment placement with a local employer or community-based service supported by a job coach. The aim of the course is to help you to gain employment, training or volunteering at the end of the academic year.

Your placement must be supported through the Local Authority commissioning process.

What you will Study

The programme will focus on developing your employability skills and ensuring you are confident about going into the workplace.

You will continue to improve your English and maths throughout the year.

How you will Learn

There will be a mix of classroom learning and on-the-job learning.  You will have access to a Job Coach or Assistant Job Coach who will guide you through the programme.

You will continue with your Maths and English study at an appropriate level to your skills.

Course Structure Classroom portfolio-based learning and work placement based at employer premises.
How you will be Assessed

Your Job Coach will monitor your progress in the classroom and in your placement and help you compile a portfolio of skills.

For English and maths, you may complete controlled assessments and/or external tests, depending on your level.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications, but your place must be commissioned by the Local Authority. You will have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).

You must be a current College learner.

You must be able to travel independently to College and to a place of work and able to undertake a range of work related tasks once trained.

You must be prepared to give your full commitment to the programme and want to progress into employment, training or volunteering at the end of the academic year.

Attendance Expectations

In the first term you will attend College for three days a week.

When your placement starts you will spend fewer days in College and more days in your work placement.

This is part of a full-time study programme. It may be available as a standalone fee-paying course that is not part of a full-time study programme subject to sufficient interest.

Attendance - Please note A minimum of 95% attendance is expected.
