Indicative Content

At least 20% of your working week for the duration of the apprenticeship must be spent carrying out new learning relating to the apprenticeship standards. To support you in achieving this, you will study the AAT Level 4 Accounting Diploma:

Three mandatory units:
• Drafting and Interpretation Financial Statements
• Internal Accounting systems and controls
• Applied Management Accounting

Plus, two specialist units:
• Personal Tax
• Cash Financial Management

Throughout your programme you will be required to produce a portfolio of evidence that demonstrates competence in the knowledge, skills and behaviours in the apprenticeship standard, which have been gathered from the your practical experience in the workplace, combined with a reflective statement that draws on
your portfolio.

Once on programme for 12 months you will then be registered for end point assessment, this then allows you to attempt both aspects of the gateway, the first being a synoptic exam and the second being your reflective statement or professional discussion. The reflective statement will be assessed by two Independent Assessors (IAs) appointed by AAT and will take the form of a written statement, or a professional discussion.

Delivery Methods Classroom based and Tutor led. All learning must be recorded to demonstrate you are achieving at least 20% of your working week to off the job learning, a requirement of the apprenticeship. This will be discussed and agreed with you and your employer at the start of the apprenticeship.
Nature of Assessments on the Programme

Assessment will be continuous and take place in both the workplace and the College.

There will be a combination of computer-based assessments and projects or work-based evidence followed by an end professional discussion at the end of the programme

Entry Requirements

Level 3 Accounting Apprenticeship or AAT L3 Diploma in Accounting.

Certificate evidence of English and maths at level 2 or GCSE grade A*-C (or new grade 9-4). If you do not have these, we can support the development of your English and maths skills through completion of Functional Skills in the relevant subject and one-to-one support. Most employers look for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C (or new grade 9-4). This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.

Attendance Expectations

You will be required to attend taught sessions of the AAT Level 4 Accounting Diploma – Tuesdays 9:00am – 4:30pm.

The Professional Accounting Technician Apprenticeship will take 18 months to complete as you will need to take AAT Accounts Level 4 and complete the evidence of your portfolio followed by an end professional discussion or a written reflective statement regards your overall work experience.

You are also required to meet regularly with your apprenticeship assessor in your place of work for reviews on progress and workplace assessments to take place.

If you are undertaking Functional Skills as part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend Castleford Campus for a week block of teaching, per Functional Skill subject. This will be discussed at your enrolment and induction.
