Programme Design and Overview This two year part-time counselling practitioner qualification is intended for learners who have successfully completed counselling skills training at Level 3. It gives learners the knowledge, skills and competencies to work as a therapeutic counsellor in an agency context. Learners will need to secure a minimum 100 hours student counselling placement as part of the course. Successful completion of the course enables progress towards BACP accreditation.
Indicative Content

This qualification is made up of seven mandatory units:

Unit 1 – Working ethically, safely and professionally as a counsellor
Unit 2 – Working within a counselling relationship
Unit 3 – Working with client diversity in counselling work
Unit 4 – Working with research as a counsellor
Unit 5 – Working with self-awareness in the counselling process
Unit 6 – Working within a coherent framework of counselling theory and skills
Unit 7 – Placement – completing 100 supervised client contact hours in an appropriate setting

Delivery Methods Presentations and discussions, videos, computer-based learning, personal reading and research, skills practice sessions, student counselling placement, personal development groupwork.
Nature of Assessments on the Programme Over the two years, learners will produce a portfolio containing essays, research assignment, reflective writing and there will also be an assessed audio recording of a counselling session with a peer.
Entry Requirements This course is for candidates who have completed a counselling skills course at Level 3, and who want to go on to further training, to become a counsellor working in a counselling service agency. Any online Level 3 qualification will only be accepted if it included a significant element of counselling skills practice.
Attendance Expectations The course will start in January and is timetabled on a Tuesday 3.30pm – 9.00pm
Attendance - Please note It is an expectation that students prioritise this course and set out with the intention of attending 100% of the time.
Fee Information

These fees relate to 2022/23

Course costs for students aged 19 or over - £2,225.00

If you are aged between 19 to 23 and you have not already achieved a full level 3 (or above) qualification, then your course may be free.

If you are aged over 19 and have achieved a full level 3 qualification
or are aged over 24 you are probably eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan from the government to cover your tuition fees.

Additional Course Costs

As part of the course, Students need to undertake a minimum of 10hrs personal therapy (approx. cost £45-50/hr), supervision 1.5 hrs per month from about the 6th month of the course (approx. cost £60 per month) and annual insurance (approx. cost £50).

Candidates are encouraged to become student members of the BACP which is currently £82/year.

The following costs should be used as a guide only.

Printing and photocopying costs: There is no charge for course hand-outs, handbooks etc. Students will receive a printing credit of £10 per annum from the University Centre, after which students will have to pay for extra credits.

Library overdue charges: Overdue charges apply to all library loans to encourage you to return any resources you borrow on time. Overdue charges are 5p per day per book. There is no charge for e-books rentals.

Graduation Ceremony: When you graduate, we will invite you to your graduation ceremony. It is free for you to attend, however, to take part you will need to pay to hire an academic robe to wear during the ceremony. Details can be found here: www.edeandravenscroft.com/graduation-services.

Further Study Candidates may progress onto a Level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling, BSc Counselling or similar courses at other colleges and universities (please check entry requirements with course providers).
Career Opportunities Successful completion of this course means that learners will be able to provide a therapeutic counselling service, and later (with experience and support from a supervisor) they may progress to independent practice.
