Course Overview

The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy course will prepare you specifically for working in the sports massage dealing with injured clients. 

This qualification will give you the opportunity to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to work with clients who have had recent non-acute injuries and preexisting conditions.

You will develop your massage techniques gained at Level 3 further; in areas such as soft tissue release, connective tissue, corrective frictions, trigger points and muscle energy techniques. You will also gain a deeper knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology that will aid your development as a massage practitioner.

What you will Study

You will study a range of modules including:

  • Conducting subjective and objective assessment
  • Provide sports massage techniques to prevent and manage injury
  • Treatment modalities to support soft tissue repair
How you will Learn Through practical and theory sessions in College. Self-directed study, learning and practice outside College will help you develop your knowledge and skills further.
Course Structure The entire course will be conducted in the College’s dedicated massage suite, working with industry-standard equipment and resources. Some of the classes will be theory but most classes will be practical and will involve you practising the skills and techniques with your group.
How you will be Assessed

The course will be assessed in the following ways:

  • Portfolio of evidence
  • Practical assessments
Entry Requirements You must have completed the Level 3 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy or equivalent.
Attendance Expectations One evening per week (Thursday) from 6-9pm for 12 weeks including 2 weekends.
Fee Information

These fees relate to 2022/23

Tuition Fee £811.00

If you are aged between 19 to 23 and you have not already achieved a full level 3 (or above) qualification, then your course may be free.

If you are aged over 19 and have achieved a full level 3 qualification or are aged over 24 you are probably eligible for an Advanced Learner Loan from the government to cover your tuition fees.

Career Opportunities Once completed you will be able to gain employment as a sports massage therapist providing a range of advanced sports massage techniques for recent non acute injuries and for pre-existing conditions. This may be with a professional sports club, private health clubs and leisure centres and/or self employed.
