Programme Design and Overview

Level 3 is aimed at developing your artistic skills in fashion and textiles.

Year 1 you will study towards the Diploma and explore a wide range of techniques, with the creation of textiles and fashion being central to every project. We also look closely at the work of others and strive to create exciting, experimental outcome that are supported by innovative sketchbooks.

Year 2 you will progress to the Extended Diploma and focus on creating more specialist fashion and textile pieces. You will begin to work more independently, developing ideas of a more personal nature, the course culminates in a final self-initiated project and exhibition to showcase your collection of creative work. The course is aimed at anyone who has a creative mind, wants to develop their design knowledge and skills and has a real passion and desire to work in the creative industries.

You will gain self confidence in your portfolio work and a range of personal skills, such as, working within a group, independence and advise on completing application forms for employment and university, you will be guided through interview processes this will equip you for applications and interviews at university, apprenticeships or employment.

What you will Study

How you will Learn

The course will be delivered through a series of assignments and practical workshops, led by friendly, supportive and experienced staff.

Level 3 students will have practical lessons taught in workshops and studios, where you will be introduced to new textile techniques, you will experiment with a variety of media and develop your skills and ideas in fashion and textile design.

Enrichment
You will have the opportunity to work with local organisations on a variety of live projects, these are aimed at developing your professional skills and encourage you to work as expected in industry. Past engagements have been: - Burberry, The History centre, West Yorkshire Archive Services, the Ridings shopping centre and The Art House.

How you will be Assessed

You will be continually assessed by your tutors throughout the academic year, and an external moderator will verify and confirm your final grades.

Level 3 - Over the two years you will complete 13 units year 1 you will complete 13 units which are graded at a Pass. Unit 8 is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Year 2 will complete Units 10 – 12 at a Pass, and Unit 13 is graded at Pass, Merit or Distinction and will determine the overall grade for the course.

4 GCSEs 9-4 and Level 2 in either English or maths
OR
Successful completion of Level 2 or equivalent at Merit grade, plus GCSE English or maths at grade 4 or Level 2 English or maths

Attendance Expectations As a full-time student you will be expected to attend all classes as specified on your timetable and all personal tutorial sessions.

Fee Information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, and residentials, which are payable by all students.

Any student registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and subsequently withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international/overseas students and those studying this qualification as a standalone course

Further Study

On completion with the appropriate pass and English and maths grades you can progress through the levels.

This study programme offers progression to a variety of art-related courses. Our own Foundation Diploma in Art & Design is a recommended progression route, or you may wish to apply to a university. During the course we will explain all the possible options and support you through the application process.

Career Opportunities A wide range of roles are available within the Fashion and Textile industries such as fashion and textile designers, fashion buying, fashion marketing, visual merchandiser, fashion retail, textile artist maker, surface printer, window dressing, etc.
