What you will Study

Some of the areas you will study include:

Level 1 – You will develop assets through different projects to explore game creation processes and techniques.
Level 2 - You will study a variety of units that are taught as projects, each project will involve making your own game using industry standard software such as the Unity engine.
Level 3 - You will create a series of game projects with each project developing specific game development skills and processes. Alongside this you will explore the different requirements for successful employment within the Games Industry.

Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have good Maths and English GCSEs, which is why the development of these skills are so important, whatever your field of study.

How you will Learn

You will be taught via physical and digital workshop-based sessions that encourage 'learning by doing' using industry standard software and techniques.

By the end of the course you could have produced a multitude of working game projects, which will be ready to publish should you desire. You will also learn about the inner workings of the games industry, human computer interfaces and games platforms, as well as being visited by a number of guest speakers from both industry and Higher Education.

How you will be Assessed You will be assessed through assignments and practical project work that count towards your final grade. Your tutor will provide regular feedback and maintain a record of assessment. All student work may be externally verified.
Entry Requirements

Level 1
3 GCSEs 9-1

Level 2
4 GCSEs 9-3 including English and maths
A relevant Level 1 qualification at Merit grade,  plus Entry 3 English and maths

Level 3
4 GCSEs 9-4  including English and maths
4 GCSEs 9-4 plus Level 2 in either English or maths, and 3 or Level 1 in the other
A relevant Level 2 qualification at Merit grade, plus GCSE English or maths 4, plus Level 1 or Level 2 English or maths

Attendance Expectations The course is full-time and you must be available to attend College Monday to Friday for approximately 15 hours per week, plus a similar amount of time for private study. Extra help with your English or Maths can be arranged.

Fee Information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, and residentials, which are payable by all students.

Any student registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and subsequently withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international/overseas students and those studying this qualification as a standalone course

Further Study On completion with the appropriate pass and English and maths grades, you can progress through the levels.
You could progress onto higher education courses in Computer Games Design or Development, Animation, Digital Graphics, Web Design and Multimedia.
