Course Overview
Food Technologists work in one of the largest, most dynamic and fastest growing sectors of industry. Everyday producers, food manufacturers and retailers make and sell millions of innovative food products, such as drinks, cakes, biscuits, ready to eat and ready to cook food, sandwiches, wraps and fresh fruit and salads to consumers in the UK and around the world. Food Technologists are passionate about their industry and ensure all products are safe to eat, of consistent appearance, taste, and texture and take great pride in their work.
What you will Study
On achievement of this qualification, learners will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of food industry regulations, raw materials and storage, microbiology, food science and the application of food technology. Learners will be able to contribute to health and safety and food safety management, technical and quality management, product development and costing and continuous improvement. Learners will be competent in core technical activities including the resolution of technical problems and conducting quality and sensory evaluation. Learners will also exhibit competence in the interpretation and analysis of technical information and data.
How you will Learn
You may be required to attend college sessions covering Modular requirements.
These will be planned in advance.
You will have regular meetings with your assessor and gain technical
experience on the job.
How you will be Assessed
Learners must achieve all mandatory units to achieve the qualification at a
Pass grade. The units set out what learners need to know and need to do in order
to perform effectively in their role at work. The learning outcomes are defined
by assessment criteria and these criteria must be assessed successfully for a
learner to achieve each unit.
You will produce/develop evidence building an electronic portfolio covering a
range of methods (observations, work products, witness testimonies, projects,
assignments and case studies). Your assessor will agree and arrange to observe
you on site, working with you and your manager determining your level of
knowledge, skills and behaviours.
Entry Requirements
Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking their end-point assessment.
Attendance Expectations
You may be required to attend college Attendance will be agreed in advance. You will be expected to meet at 6 – 8 weekly intervals with your assessor.
Further Study
On achievement of this qualification progression to a higher level of
learning and achievement can be considered.
