Programme Design and Overview This course prepares you to work within the health and social care sector. This is hopefully a seamless path onto the Foundation Degree in Health and Well-being at Wakefield College. You will develop a range of skills and knowledge which you will put into practice during your mandatory placement day.
What you will Study

You will study a range of units;

• Equality and Diversity
• Human growth and development
• Safeguarding
• Communication
• Infection prevention
• Psychology
• Sociology
• Working in health and social care
• Reflective Practice

How you will Learn

You will be involved in a variety of activities including workbooks, poster work, lectures, visiting speakers, tutor presentations, groupwork and research and practical activities.

Level 3 students must also be prepared to undertake work placements in a care setting to meet a minimum college requirement of 75 hours. This is mandatory which means you must pass your placement in order to pass the level 3 health and social care qualification. Without completing these hours, you will not pass the course

How you will be Assessed

You will be assessed by a range of methods including oral questioning, portfolio building, posters, written assignments and practical tasks.

You will also need to complete a 5000 word externally marked extended essay.

Entry Requirements A successful interview and Level 2 (or GCSE pass) English and maths. Or English at level 2 (or GCSE pass), or be working towards Maths. You should have an interest in the subject.
Attendance Expectations You will attend college every Thursday during term time.
Fee Information

These fees relate to 2023/24: £2,882

*FREE COURSE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Available for students who live within West Yorkshire at the start of their course. If students are 19 or over and do not already have a level 3 qualification or higher, they may be able to access a free level 3 qualification with us, subject to eligibility.

From April 2022 any adult in England who is earning under the Real Living Wage or is classed as unemployed, may be able to access these qualifications for free regardless of their prior qualifications.

For more detailed information on financial support please contact the Financial Support Team on 01924 789283. If you are not eligible for a free Level 3 course, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available to cover your course fees.

Additional Course Costs You will be required to complete a DBS check at a cost of £38 payable at enrolment (*this fee is liable to change depending on price changes from the Disclosure & Barring Service).
Further Study Learners who successfully complete this course may progress onto the foundation Degree in Health and Well-being with Wakefield college
