Course Overview This highly supported course is for learners who want to further develop their independence into adulthood. You will gain confidence, personal and social skills, in addition to gaining skills and experience that could help you to progress towards further study or supported employment.
What you will Study

Your programme of study will concentrate on improving and developing:

Personal Relationships in Adulthood
Safeguarding self in Adulthood
Rights and Responsibilities
Community Participation including travel skills
Independent Living Skills
Social and Personal Skills
Skills for Employment or Supported Employment
Work placement tasters (where relevant to skills & aspirations)
Communication/Literacy
Numeracy

On assessment of work readiness, there may be opportunities for work experience that would develop skills towards sustainable employment.

How you will Learn You will be involved in active learning through a series of projects. The projects will allow you to action plan and produce evidence for your portfolio. Typical projects include working with external partners, employment tasters, employability, equality and diversity and safeguarding. There are also many practical activities to prepare for working life and independent living.
How you will be Assessed By portfolio building, practical activities and production of work.
Entry Requirements There are no formal entry qualifications
Attendance Expectations There is an expectation that your attendance on the course will be 95% (September to June). You will be in College for three to four days per week, depending on timetabling requirements.

This is part of a full-time study programme. It may be available as a standalone fee paying course that is not part of a full-time study programme subject to sufficient interest.

Fee Information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, and residentials, which are payable by all students.

Any student registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and subsequently withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international/overseas students and those studying this qualification as a standalone course

Further Study There may be the possibility to progress on to our FLEX VOTE programme which is designed to give you an opportunity of studying at higher levels for personal and social skills, employability skills, maths, English and ICT and will also give you vocational options and tasters. Alternatively, for learners who aspire towards employment outcomes, there may be opportunities to progress onto a Supported Internship such as GET SET or a Project Search programme.
Career Opportunities FLEX Pathway to Independence or Employment is designed to help you move towards a higher level of independent living and potentially supported employment. It will enable your confidence and self-esteem to flourish in all aspects of independence and adulthood.
