Course Overview
This qualification aims to assess and develop the knowledge and skills of
people working in a variety of healthcare settings as healthcare assistants
working within different roles:
1. Adult Nursing
2. Maternity Support
3. Theatre Support
4. Children
and Young People in Healthcare setting
5. Mental Health
6. Allied Health
Profession Therapy Support
People wishing to gain this Level 3 qualification should be working with a
minimum level of supervision and already possess good technical skills and
knowledge.
What you will Study
To gain the Diploma you must achieve a minimum of 65 credits, with 35 credits
gained from the following mandatory units:-

2. Responsibilities of a
care worker
3. Cleaning, Decontamination and Waste Management Duty of care
4. Causes and Spread of Infection
5. The principles of Infection
Prevention and Control
6. Study Skills for Senior Healthcare Support
Workers
7. Promote personal development in care settings
8. Promote
equality and inclusion in care settings
9. Promote health, safety and
wellbeing in care settings
10. Promote person-centred approaches in care
settings
11. Promote communication in care settings
12. Promote effective
handling of information in care settings
13. Duty of care in care
settings
14. Understand mental well-being and mental health promotion
15.
Understand mental health problems
In addition to the core units, you will choose optional units that suit your
current work role, and these will be discussed and planned with your
Assessor.
How you will Learn
You will be allocated a workplace assessor who will develop an individual learning plan and guide you to develop a portfolio of evidence to meet the learning outcomes.
How you will be Assessed
There are no examinations. You will be allocated an Assessor who will visit you in your workplace and observe you carrying out your daily tasks and duties. You will be required to compile a portfolio of evidence of your competence and knowledge, which your Assessor will help you to prepare.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements except a College interview, but you will need the appropriate language and literacy skills to enable you to achieve the qualification. Or the Level 3 Diploma, you will need to be working in a largely unsupervised role as a Healthcare Assistant and already have a good level of technical skills and knowledge.
Attendance Expectations
Your assessor will need to meet with you regularly to monitor your progress and to plan your assessment sessions. These meetings can take place either at your workplace or on College premises.
Further Study
It is expected that you would progress to specialist qualifications reflecting the context of your job role.
