Course Overview
This introduction to the subject will also appeal to those wishing to embark on a professional career in accountancy. This course (which is particularly aimed at adult learners) will also benefit those who are working in a role requiring accountancy and book-keeping skills.
What you will Study
You will be introduced to a range of basic routine book-keeping processes including checking and processing documents involved in financial record keeping such as invoices and credit notes; recording cash and credit transactions in books of original entry; Bank reconciliation; understanding the petty cash imprest systems and trial balances; You will learn double entry and the effects of incorrect postings checking and correcting errors arising from inaccurate/incomplete/missing entries in the ledger and day books.
How you will Learn
Learning will be carried out using a blended approach which consists of both face to face teaching and self study.
How you will be Assessed
Practical tasks are carried out under exam conditions. Tasks are set by The Association of Accounting Technicians and exam papers are assessed, marked and graded electronically; you will receive results within a few hours of completing the exam. Exams will take place during the day.
Entry Requirements
English and Maths at Level 2 (Level 2 FS or GCSE Grade C or above / 4 or
above).
Where the applicant does not meet the course entry requirements - Level 2 or
GCSE qualification at grade C/4 or above in maths and/or English, entry will be
considered on successful completion of the Introduction to Business Course Level
1.
Attendance Expectations
You will be required to attend virtual taught sessions on Mondays 9:00am-4:30pm or Tuesday and Thursday evenings 6pm – 9pm
Further Study
Wakefield College also offers the AAT Level 2 Foundation Certificate in Accounting, and for those wishing to progress further, both the Level 3 Advanced Diploma and the Level 4 Professional Diploma in Accounting.
