Course Overview

This Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) qualification is suitable for those who are employed working as a site carpenter, who have previously achieved intermediate apprenticeship status in the wood trades.

This qualification enables you, to recognise your skills, knowledge and understanding as well as demonstrate your competence in the workplace when carrying out the role of a site carpenter.

What you will Study

The NOCN_Cskills Awards Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) qualification structure below specifies the combination of units that need to be achieved for the individual to be awarded the qualification.

Having prior learning and achievement at level 2, you will have completed:

• Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
• Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace

On this level 3 advanced programme you will study:

• Confirming the Occupational Method of work in the workplace
• Confirming work activities and resources for an occupational work area in the workplace
• Installing bespoke first fixing components in the workplace
• Installing bespoke second fixing components in the workplace

In addition two optional units will be selected from those specified.

This NVQ diploma programme includes learning that relates to the following UN Sustainable Development Goals
Goal 4: Quality Education
Goal 8: decent work and economic growth

Course Structure Classroom based: 5%
Practical work: 15%
Workplace: 80%
How you will be Assessed

You will be assessed against a set of performance and knowledge statements which have been derived from National Occupational Standards for your occupational area (Recommended Qualification Structure (RQS) for Wood Occupations (Construction) Level 3).

You will be assessed by an occupationally competent and qualified lecturer/assessor who will work with you and help you complete the qualification.

You will be required to produce a Portfolio of Evidence showing how you have met the performance and knowledge criteria for each unit required within the qualification, as directed by your lecturer/assessor.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements to take this NOCN_Cskills Awards Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) qualification. This qualification can be undertaken without any previous training or qualifications in this subject area.

However, where a level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations has not been achieved we would recommend this be taken prior to enrolment on this programme.

Attendance Expectations

This qualification can be attended on a day release basis, attending one day per week expected to be a Friday, for a period of 30 weeks.

Alternatively, attendance can be one evening per week expected to be a Monday evening, with a block week in December and a further block week in January.

Fee Information

These fees relate to 2023/24:

£2,583.00

If you are 19 or over and do not already have a level 3 qualification or higher, you may be able to access a free level 3 qualification with us.

If you earn below the National Living Wage (less than £19,305 annually) or are unemployed and live in West Yorkshire, from April you may also be able to access these qualifications for free.

If you are not eligible for a free L3 course, an Advanced Learner Loan may be available to cover your course fees.

Further Study Further training and/or experience will enable entry into supervisory and management positions within the workplace.
