Course Overview

This four-year programme develops the knowledge, skills and competency required for an Installation and Maintenance Electrician in the Electro-technical sector.

What you will Study

Throughout the programme of study learners will cover a number of specialist subject areas. Some of these are the following: Health and Safety Legislation, Environmental Legislation, Practices and Procedures. Scientific Principles, Inspection and Testing. Fault Finding and Diagnosis and Design and Installation.

Maths and English are key elements of apprenticeship programmes and if you do not already have a GCSE at Grade A*-C (or new Grade 9-4) in these subjects, you will be required to study Functional Skills at the appropriate levels.

Skills in Maths and English will support your apprenticeship programme, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C (or new grade 9-4). This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.

How you will be Assessed
  • By external assessment, City & Guilds multi-choice and written examinations
  • By College staff on the worksite for practical skills and two Functional Skills
  • By external end test assessment at an AM2 centre
