Course Overview
This qualification has been designed for those members of the school
workforce who directly support the teaching and learning of pupils and who have
a specialism in supporting, for instance, bilingual children or children with
special educational needs.
Portfolio sessions will include theory research, practical tasks, work based
projects, resource learning. Your assessor will plan, and assess your practical
work in the workplace.
What you will Study
You will need to achieve 11 mandatory units plus optional units.
The mandatory units are:-
- Communication and professional relationships with children, young people
and adults
- Schools as organisations
- Support learning activities
- Promote children and young people’s positive behaviour
- Develop professional relationships with children, young people and
adults
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in work with children and young
people
- Support assessment for learning
- Engage in personal development in health, social care or children and
young people’s settings
- Support children and young people's health and safety
- Understand child and young person development
- Understand how to safeguard the wellbeing of children and young
people
How you will be Assessed
You will be allocated an assessor who will guide you to complete a portfolio of evidence building evidence from knowledge and understanding to practical tasks.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, but you will need to have sufficient language and literacy skills to be able to achieve the qualification. Since this qualification is assessed in the workplace, you need to be employed or have voluntary position within a school setting that offers you suitable experience and the chance to demonstrate the necessary skills.
Attendance Expectations
You will have regular tutorials and 121's with your assessor.
Further Study
You may be able to progress to a Foundation Degree in Teaching and Learning Support.
