The creative industries are the fastest growing part of the UK economy. They
are defined by the UK government as “those industries which have their origin in
individual creativity, skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth
and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual
property”.
On our Higher National Programme you will encourage and support you to
develop your own style and vision in photography, and can help you plan for your
future career. If you have a passion for image-making this course will help you
to achieve more by providing practical skills and theoretical knowledge,
building a thoughtful, visually creative and innovative portfolio of work.
Set projects are worked on with support from tutors, peers, and portfolio
feedback. We also have a selection of client briefs from around the local area,
as well as working closely with visiting professional photographers and
industries for lectures, workshops and portfolio reviews. Throughout the course
you will be encouraged to exhibit your work both live and online and enter
various competitions.
We have an industry standard studio with specialist lighting, up to date
digital software and black and white darkroom facilities.
A variety of teaching and learning methods will be used that encourage and
facilitate learners’ creative and artistic development and bring together,
wherever possible, practice and theory.
Methods used will
encourage both independent and collaborative learning through use of practical
workshops, interactive lectures, resource-based learning, individual and group
work, tutorials, discussion & critiques.
Individual or group
projects will culminate in exhibitions. Students will critically reflect
on their own performance and that of others.
Residentials,
visiting professionals, attendance of exhibitions and other related events will
be used to broaden learners’ concepts and practice.
