If you’ve got a passion for music and want to broaden your skills, develop current musicianship skills and career opportunities through practical learning, then the Rockschool music study programme is right for you.

You will develop your music performance and musicianship skills, gain knowledge of how the current music industry works and learn how to develop compositional skills both in groups and independently. Students will have the opportunity to use the latest recording software and facilities whilst developing their studio recording skills. You will also have the opportunity to discover musical styles and influences of popular music. Additionally, you will work as an active member of a band working towards a range of performances in internal and external music venues. As part of all the courses you will develop your confidence, team working skills, independent study, creativity in writing and performing and showmanship.

For Level 2 Music an active interest in the subject and the ability to play an instrument is essential.

You will learn through classroom based and practical work. You will have the opportunity to work in our specialist studios, rehearsal rooms and theatres. Music performance student will learn by experimenting as an individual but also by collaborating on a variety of projects with other music students as part of an ensemble.

What you will Study

Examples of some of the units you may study are:

  • How to develop your musicianship skills and take part in several internal and external gigs
  • The historical aspects and musical characteristics of a variety of key musical genres
  • How to compose your own music
  • How to create a podcast using music technology
  • How to operate studio equipment, record and mix a recording
  • Develop key employability skills essential for the music industry (confidence, teamwork, adaptability etc)
  • How to record live music and perform in a live recording environment
How you will be Assessed You’ll be assessed through performances, practical and theoretical based project work in the music industry /performing arts depending on the course level.
Entry Requirements

3 GCSEs at Grade 9 - 3 including English or Maths
OR
Level 1 Music, Performance & Production Arts

PLUS
Satisfactory interview/audition

Further Study

On completion with the appropriate pass and English and maths grades you can progress through the levels.

After level 2 you could progress to one of the level 3 courses offered at Wakefield College, such as:
