Course Overview

This three-day course, is recognised by the Microgeneration Certification Schemes, will provide you with the skills and knowledge to install and maintain Ground and Air Source Heat Pump Systems (non-refrigerant circuits).

As homeowners and developers are increasingly looking for ways to become more energy efficient and move from fossil fuels to green technologies, this course will develop your knowledge and skills to be able to offer your customers an alternative to the traditional ways of heating their homes.

What you will Study
  • The requirements of relevant regulations/standards relating to the installation, testing and commissioning activities for heat pumps
  • The purpose and operational characteristics of heat pump unit and heat pump system components, different types of heat pump units and arrangements for hydraulic emitter circuits
  • Fundamental principles of heat pump selection and system design that are common to both air and ground source
  • Fundamental design principles for both ground source ‘and air source
  • Preparatory installation work for both ground and air source
  • Requirements to commission and handover heat pump system installations (non-refrigerant circuits)
  • Installation, testing, commissioning & handover of ground and air source heat pumps (non-refrigerant circuits)
  • Requirements for the non-refrigerant circuit routine service and maintenance of heat pump system installations
  • Maintenance of a ground or air source heat pump system installation
  • Fault diagnosis and rectification work on an air or ground source heat pump system installation
How you will be Assessed Consist of a combination of practical and theory examinations.
Entry Requirements

You must hold one of the following:

  • A minimum NVQ Level 2/3 qualification in plumbing or conventional heating engineering, or a demonstrable number of years of relevant experience
  • Water Regs UK Water Regulations/Water Byelaws or equivalent

Fee Information

This course may be funded in the academic year 2024/25 for adult learners with a West Yorkshire post code.

Alternatively, the fee is £TBC
