Course Overview

This programme is aimed at learners aged 16-19-years old who wish to work within the Building Services Engineering Industry primarily around Gas Installation.

This two-year course has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares learners for work.

Over the two years you will combine College-based studies along with a minimum of a 45-day industry placement.
The T level encompasses.

• The technical knowledge and practical skills required for the professional and technical role
• Maths, English and Digital skills required for the professional and technical role
• An industry placement of at least 45 days.

During this time, you will study a range of topics including core content that has been designed to give you a breadth of knowledge and skills for which you can apply in a variety of contexts related to the industry. Together with an employer-based project, the completion of this course will give you the opportunity to progress onto a Higher Education course, apprenticeship training or employment.

This T level programme includes learning that relates to the following UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities

What you will Study

You will develop knowledge and understanding of the following:

• Health and safety practices associated with carrying out gas engineering.
• Installation, maintenance, and service methods for gas systems
• Systems and products used in gas engineering.
• Analysing and using information to and from gas systems
• Removal processes as part of system decommissioning

Within this specialism you will also develop an understanding and knowledge around: -

• The key stakeholders that may be involved with gas engineering installation and maintenance.
• How gas systems are checked and tested
• The journey to becoming a qualified gas engineer.

This specialist course will also allow you to enhance your broader skills in literacy and numeracy, develop transferable skills in communication (working with real colleagues, customers, and clients) and undertake research and live project development work.

How you will Learn Engaging with specialist tutors, support staff and work placements co-ordinators, you will spend 80% of your time at college and also complete an industry placement of at least 45 days. This will provide the much-needed real-world experience needed to succeed in this industry. more employable.
How you will be Assessed

You will be assessed by two externally set exams covering knowledge from the building services engineering common core components, and completion of an employer set project.

In year 2, you will complete an Occupational Specialism Assignment: The duration of the assessment is 24 hours, and you will be assessed against the following themes:

• Health and safety
• Design and planning
• Systems and components
• Inspect and test systems and components.
• Report and information
• Handover and communication
• Working with faults

Assessment of skills will be through:
• Installation of gas systems
• Commissioning of gas systems
• Maintenance of gas systems
• Decommissioning of gas systems

Entry Requirements 5 GCSEs grades 9 – 6 including English, Maths and Science.
Attendance Expectations Attendance is expected to be over four days per week at college. Commencing mid-year there will also be the expectation to attend work placement one day per week.
Fee Information

Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, and residentials, which are payable by all students.

Any student registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and subsequently withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Different fees apply to international/overseas students and those studying this qualification as a standalone course.

Additional Course Costs A residential trip has been planned for the end of the first year of study. The estimated cost of this is £250.00.
Further Study

This qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed for working in the building services engineering industry, which will prepare you to enter the industry through employment or as an apprentice.

In addition, the completion of this qualification gives you the opportunity to progress onto Higher Education courses and training.

Career Opportunities This Technical Qualification and the pathways offered at the College is intended for students who want to progress to a career in the construction sector, with a focus on Building Services-Gas Engineering.
